MTV thinks their viewers are dumb!

If you tuned into the MTV Movie Awards last night, their 100th anniversary airing lacked charisma and charm; that is an understatement. We all know that MTV is known for their award show sploofs that leave viewers at home as well as a few in the crowd in utter shock. This is a classic move.

You might recall Eminem getting a very “friendly” lap dance by fellow celebrity, Sacha Baron Cohen at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. Viewers were absolutely speechless at the display of vulgarity with Cohen’s butt smacked dab in Eminem’s disgusted face. Yet, later on Eminem had admitted that Cohen and he had staged the entire setup!

Although stunts like these have kept viewers wanting more, it seems as if the once musically-associated TV network has begun to make a complete mockery of their award shows. Hosts have merely just done their job. While ‘Pitch Perfect’ star, Rebel Wilson was chosen to host the show this year, her performance could have displayed more wit and satiric humor. I felt like I was killing brain cells watching the tired jokes be repeated from the 20th century of MTV award shows.

Why was I not laughing? Why did I feel severely uncomfortable when Will Ferrell showed up on stage to accept his “Comedic Genius” award only to invite his “family” of timid Asian kids and “wife” to join him? And then recite his vows to this poor Asian lady? I could almost smell the hot liquored breath of his surround the mic. It was unflattering and far from comedic if you ask me. Gross.

MTV has created an awards show that is tasteless and lacks creativity. The only successful tactic they stuck with for typical award shows was to bless their audience with top-notch music performances. Let’s not forget that the once “Music Television”-based network did that exactly. And was good at it.
